Hey there, I’m Kylie!
I'm the gal behind Gather and Roam, and I'm so glad you're here. This little corner of the internet is a place to document the life we're building, the places we're exploring, the things I'm making in the kitchen, and all the little moments I never want to forget.
We've lived in Europe for nearly three years now, and if I'm being honest, we've been pretty busy living in the moment. These have been some of the absolute best years of my life, and I've always felt this little pull to document them somehow. I tried just about everything, GoPro videos, scrapbooks, journals, but nothing quite felt like it.
Then it hit me: a blog.
I've always loved writing and creating, and I realized a blog could be the all-in-one place I'd been looking for. Somewhere I could share the stories behind our travels, the recipes I love making, and the everyday pieces of our life in between. More than anything, I wanted a place where our memories could live, not for recognition or fame, but for our family, our friends, and our future selves.
A Little About Me
Before Gather and Roam, I've worn quite a few hats. I studied English and Secondary Education and have worked as a middle school reading teacher, bridal stylist, freelance writer, training and development coordinator, and product marketing manager. On paper, those jobs might not seem to have much in common, but looking back, I can see how each one gave me a little piece of what eventually led me here.
I started college thinking I wanted to become a lawyer. Somewhere along the way, though, my perspective on success changed. Ryder challenged me to ask a simple question: “If money wasn't a factor, what would your dream job be?”
I didn't have an immediate answer.
It took a few different chapters (and a little trial and error) to figure out what I actually loved. Teaching taught me how much I enjoy helping people. Working in bridal introduced me to creativity, storytelling, and the joy of making someone feel special. Writing and marketing taught me how much I enjoy creating something from an idea and finding the right way to share it.
Looking back, none of those chapters feel quite as random as they once did. Each taught me something about communicating, creating, connecting, and telling a good story. Gather and Roam feels like the place where all of those pieces finally get to come together.
These Days
These days, I'm an Army wife, a stay-at-home boy mama, and an American making a home in Germany.
When I'm not picking up after Micah or dreaming up our next adventure, you'll probably find me with a book, in the kitchen, out for a walk with friends, pairing an outfit with the perfect accessories, or planning our next trip.
I scream Type A in all that I do, so much so that my mother-in-law gifted me with the nickname “110%” a couple months into Ryder and I dating. To this day, I’m all about turning life’s ordinary moments into extravagant ones, or to put it simply, I’M EXTRA.
I’m that girl who wakes up without hitting the snooze button, gets dresses from her color-coded closet, cooks from her labeled canister pantry, and swears by her daily checklist. If it’s organized and aesthetically pleasing, I’m probably obsessed with it. Basically, I’m a Pinterest board in human form.
A Few of My Favorite Things
📚 Currently reading:
Probably something that will have me saying “just one more chapter” at midnight.
🌎 Favorite places I've roamed:
Santorini, Greece & Tromsø, Norway. Two very different kinds of beautiful, and I refuse to pick between them.
🍷 Ideal afternoon:
Wine tasting somewhere with a view or an afternoon tea with all the little sandwiches and pastries.
🧁 Favorite thing to bake:
Cupcakes! Give me a piping bag and some buttercream, and I'm a happy girl.
☕ Coffee order:
A flat white. Always.
✈️ Dream destination:
Bora Bora. I mean who wouldn’t want to stay in an overwater bungalow?!
⛪ My ideal Sunday:
A big breakfast, church, college football, and ending the day around the firepit. Nothing beats those crisp, autumn Sundays.
📖 Never leave home without:
My Kindle Paperwhite. Because you never know when you'll find yourself with a few unexpected minutes to read.
🇩🇪 Favorite thing about living in Germany:
The slower pace of life. It's taught me to appreciate the little things a lot more.
🍪 Current kitchen obsession:
My KitchenAid mixer. She gets a lot of use around here.
🕊️ One thing that never left me:
My love for all things weddings. Let's just say I got to live my Say Yes to the Dress dream…Randy Fenoli and all.
And Above All ...
I'm incredibly grateful for the life God has given us, the places He's allowed us to see, the people He's placed around our table, and the little moments that make this season so special.
Thanks for being here. I hope you'll stick around for a while 🤍
